THE FARMERS

Bringing people back to food

David Darling Jr, Owner and Farmer at The Farm at Catawissa Creek, Sustainable Regenerative Organic Agriculture

dAVID

Before pursuing formalized training in sustainable agriculture David studied Mathematics at Eastern University where he cultivated a love for Beauty and a desire to understand Justice.

Throughout college he worked extensively in the service industry without any awareness of the precarious position our food system was in. It was only through volunteering at a ministry in Philadelphia that he witnessed the power of food to bring together all parts of society. Each week they served and shared a meal with the cities food-insecure population and it was through these meals and conversations that David realized his own ignorance.

It became clear that he did not know where his food was grown, who grew it, or how it was produced, let alone the value and scarcity of fresh, local food.

As he searched for ways to procure produce and meat for the ministry directly from local farms, he learned that the United States was under threat to lose millions of acres of farmland to development because aging farmers looked to retire without enough young farmers to transition too.

It was these experiences that led him to reconcile his relationship with the natural world, as well as, his community by becoming a competent steward and sustainable producer.

David spent three years during his apprenticeship developing an agricultural plan for the land near Catawissa Creek powered by his personal journey of reconciliation. Thus, the underlying ethos of The Farm at Catawissa Creek was born: “bringing people back to food”.

It is his belief that “eating food binds us to the source from which it came, aligns us to the methods it was produced and allies us with those who grow, harvest and prepare it”

aNNE

Culture, fashion and beauty led Anne to Italy in 2011 where she pursued her education in Fashion Design at Polimoda in Florence and Politecnico in Milan. She specialized in knitwear, believing it’s capabilities of producing garments with little to no waste was the future of fashion. While abroad her passion for food grew as she traveled the world because each culture offered unique inspiration in the forms of flavor and design that she would carry back to the United States.

After completion of her education in Design she returned home to the US where she felt compelled to explore yoga, and eventually acquired her 200 hour teaching certification. Her practice grew enough to start her own business and even further when she discovered Thai Massage and Bodywork during a training with the Vedic conservatory. Enthralled by a practice that combined multiple holistic modalities she sought greater knowledge to nurture and heal the body and received training directly from the source in Thailand.

Anne’s fashion journey did not stop in Italy as she opened her second business while pursuing her yoga career; her namesake clothing line. Her unique artistic vision suddenly fused with her passion for yoga and led to the birth of a successful line of athleisure apparel.  Her brand was noticed and her career launched in New York City when she became the lead menswear designer of the largest Canadian Retailer.

Covid shifted her path and brought her back to her roots. Upon meeting David, and learning of the farm, it was as if everything that she loved, all of her training and capabilities could come together in one expression. Yoga, Healing, Beauty, Taste, Fashion and Culture as the means to bring people together.
