Honey from A Bee Sanctuary

A few years ago, a local beekeeper reached out about putting hives on our farm. She had hives placed at another location but exposure to herbicide and pesticide use ruined her colonies and season.

She searched for an organic farm nearby and found us! Anais came to visit the farm and was instantly taken by the land. Starstruck by what she called a “bee sanctuary” because of the vast amount of forested land protecting the main farm field on every side and pollinator strips we leave unmowed filled with wildflowers.

She also started explaining how the land was perfect for pollination succession: Tulip Poplar trees next to the space would provide early pollination, Japanese Knotweed down by the creek would be next, followed by the goldenrod. She also told us about the amazing and unexpected Lanternfly honey, that is similarly potent to Manuka Honey.

This is her first season of honey from our farm and she has graciously offered the Farm community first pick on the honey.

The most unique thing about this honey and her process are keeping the full flavor profiles of each frame intact. This is starkly different to the honey you buy in stores where all frames are mixed together to create a standardized taste. Anais believes retaining the unique flavor profiles of each frame are the best way to experience local honey.

It makes a lot of sense to us since we were given a few frames earlier in the year in exchange for the space and we can attest to the difference in quality and unbelievable flavor profiles. We have never had honey like this and felt extremely grateful that something so good came from our farm.
